About Linda Rosenthal

• Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal represents the 67th Assembly District, which includes the Upper West Side and parts of Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan.
• In her time in office, Assemblymember Rosenthal has established herself as a leading advocate on affordable housing, domestic violence, consumer protection, preventive medical care and animal cruelty.
• The Assemblymember passed a total of 22 bills during the 2009 legislative session, including vacancy decontrol legislation. This bill will repeal vacancy decontrol in New York City, increasing the number of apartments under the rent stabilization system. This is considered the most essential reform for housing advocates and renters throughout the city and surrounding counties.
• In previous sessions, Assemblymember Rosenthal has passed laws restricting the escape of spousal and child support payments, providing the right to equal pay regardless of gender, and requiring employers to disclose any electronic monitoring of their employees.
• She also successfully enacted into law bills increasing access to social services for sexual assault victims and extending court orders of protection to companion animals, whose abuse often serves as an early warning sign for spousal and child abuse.

About Catherine Nolan

• Catherine Nolan represents the 37th Assembly District in Queens County, which includes the historic New York City neighborhoods of Sunnyside, Ridgewood, Long Island City, Queensbridge, Ravenswood, Astoria, Woodside, Maspeth, Dutch Kills and Blissville.
• She has spearheaded efforts to achieve class size reduction, universal pre-k, middle school initiatives, improve high school graduation rates and other measures that will ultimately mean success for the more than three million school children in New York State.
• Among Ms. Nolan’s initial achievements was the extension of the state’s wildcard provisions that foster parity between federal and state-chartered banks.
• She also authored a new law to extend the retention period for ATM surveillance tapes in an effort to curb ATM fraud.
• She successfully passed legislation in the Assembly to raise the minimum wage, to enhance whistleblower protections for healthcare workers, strengthen sweatshop enforcement, tighten enforcement of unpaid wage violations, protect innocent bystanders involved in strikes and to create a special fund to investigate prevailing wage violations.
• She has also held hearings on such important issues as raising the minimum wage, wage and hour violations, workers’ compensation, the understaffing of nurses and age discrimination in the workplace.
• She was successful in passing laws increasing the public’s participation in MTA decisions, extending the arbitration provisions for MTA’s labor unions and requiring fire safety training for employees.

About Grace Meng

• She is the youngest Asian-American ever elected to the New York State Legislature, and currently the only Asian-American serving in the entire legislature.
• Grace has emerged as a fighter for working families, children and senior citizens.
• 8 of her bills have already passed the Assembly, 5 of them having already been signed into law by the Governor – becoming landmark legislation. These laws include extending unemployment coverage to 56,000 New Yorkers during tough economic times; and providing new incentives for property owners to commit to providing affordable housing. She also authored the historic law that eliminates the offensive word “oriental” which still existed in some government documents.
• As the author and sponsor of the Reverse Mortgage Act of 2009, her legislation prohibits proceeds received from reverse mortgages from being considered as income for the purpose of senior citizens’ partial property tax exemption.
• She has also served on the boards of Flushing Hospital Medical Center, the American Red Cross, Flushing Savings Bank, Flushing YMCA, and was the former chairperson of the New York City’s Department of Youth and Community Development’s Neighborhood Advisory Board 7.
